Sports Injuries Treatment – The Sole Clinic

Sports Injury Treatments

Sports Injuries are defined as musculoskeletal injuries sustained during sports or physical activities. Such injuries are further divided into acute and overuse injuries:

  • Acute injuries are usually traumatic, such as fractures, dislocations, ligament sprains and muscle tears.
  • Overuse injuries develop over a period of time, usually associated with an increase in training intensity and frequency. Examples are stress fractures, compartment syndromes and tendon degeneration that occur due to the additional load placed upon musculoskeletal structures by increased training demands of modern day endurance events.

What is Sports Injuries Treatment about?

Sports injuries treatment involves the understanding of why the injury occurs. It includes the identification of various factors that contribute collectively to form the injury. Our physiotherapists will help to identify such aggravating factors during the physiotherapy session and seek to reduce pain through various methods such as ice, soft tissue techniques and biomechanical assessment.

Another aspect of sports injuries treatment is to help the individual to return to sports quickly and to perform at a satisfactory level. This involves the analysis of sports skills and identification of potential areas for improvement, such as poor flexibility or muscular endurance after injury. Upon evaluation, an individualised exercise programme can be developed during the physiotherapy session to enhance the individual’s recovery.
